The Vegetable Gardens

found this in the Lanc. Co. Amish Cookbook and thought it was a perfect idea for a garden.

THE VEGETABLE GARDEN

First plant five rows of peas
PATIENCE
PROMPTNESS
PREPARATION
PERSERVERANCE
PURITY

Next plant three row of squash
SQUASH GOSSIP
SQUASH CRITICISM
SQUASH INDIFFERENCE

Then plant five rows of lettuce
Let-us BE FAITHFUL TO DUTY
Let-us BE UNSELFISH
Let-us BE LOYAL
Let-us BE TRUE TO OBLIGATIONS
Let-us LOVE ONE ANOTHER

And no garden is complete without turnips
Turn-up FOR IMPORTANT MEETINGS
Turn-up WITH A SMILE
Turn-up WITH GOOD IDEAS
Turn-up WITH DETERMINATION

"Fear is the most potent force that prevents parents from allowing their children the freedom they themselves enjoyed when they were young. Fear is the emotion that separates a developing childs from the full, essential benefits of nature. Fear of traffic, of crime, of stranger-danger------and of nature itself."
